Endobronchial valve occlusion of a giant bulla.
A 45-year-old female patient had a history of severe COVID-19 infection in February 2022, requiring intensive care treatment with oxygen therapy in CPAP and BiPAP modes. Shortly after discharge, she developed dyspnea, exertional shortness of breath, and a persistent dry cough.
Chest CT (24.03.2022) revealed a giant bulla in the right upper lobe.
In order to reduce the volume of the giant bulla and improve lung function, endobronchial valve occlusion of the right upper lobe bronchus was performed. A valve bronchial blocker (No. 12) was placed in the right upper lobe bronchus.
As a result, collapse therapy of the bulla was achieved, followed by the development of fibrotic changes in the treated area.
