Resection and stenting of squamous cell carcinoma of the left main bronchus.
A 70-year-old male patient. In 2017, he was diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the bronchus. The patient was undergoing chemotherapy. His condition progressively deteriorated, with worsening dyspnea, paroxysmal cough with hemoptysis, left-sided chest pain, and insomnia.
The case was deemed inoperable by thoracic surgeons; therefore, the patient underwent laser resection and stenting of the left main bronchus using rigid bronchoscopy, a VELAS™ 30W diode laser, and a silicone stent.
Following the procedure, the patient’s clinical condition improved markedly. Follow-up chest CT and fiberoptic bronchoscopy demonstrated complete restoration of patency of the left main bronchus.
- Chest radiography 20 days prior to resection.
- Chest CT (axial view) 20 days prior to resection.
- Bronchoscopy with biopsy prior to resection.
- Laser resection.
- Resected tumor.
- One week after resection.
- One month after resection.
- Chest radiography 4 months after resection.
